2012 is a futile effort from director Roland Emmerich, famous for his globe-dooming stories. Another attempt after Independence Day and Day After Tomorrow to slash this planet with a lot of pain in the name of nature. Apocalypse has been notion of this movie and although Mayans have predicted about the doomsday ages ago, this movie showcased the idea with stupendous CGI effects. The only enjoyable ray throughout the movie was the graphics that depict Earth’s crest falling apart in various facets. Famous historical places and monuments were on target to be ended is ashes.

Now talking about the story line, there is a geologist who researches and confirms about the collapse; then there is this family man who is only worried about saving his kin and kith and gets plain lucky to escape from any of the tremors, lava or floods!!

The geologist discloses to the top brass of the US political system that the world is coming to an end on 21-12-21. Following which, they make the necessary protective arrangement in the form of massive space ships, which can safeguard humans against any catastrophe. These ships were built in China as it is geographically located at a higher altitude. This was kept as a secret and any little space on these ships was meant for the rich and their connected.

In the meantime, the family man is hinted that everything is going to end soon and by the time he realizes it, the reality starts slapping on face. With fissures just few meters behind his fast-speeding limousine, he manages to fly off along with his family amidst the collapsing skyscrapers. All of a sudden, they land at an airport where he happens to meet his stinking-rich boss who is heading to China. After a fire-fighting feat to take off the plane by an experienced pilot and a surgeon-turned-pilot, they crash at some place in China.

All these people mentioned so far some way or other get into the ships and are saved from the surrounding disasters. That ends our story.

Now if we contemplate the theme of this movie, I think we are currently fighting much bigger problems like economic slash, swineflu, terrorism and the God-made problems are way beyond us. On top of it, the solution offered is totally impractical as it can save only few atoms of human race. In other words, when the ordinary citizens go about their daily lives, salvation awaits only the politicians, tycoons and scientists. What about the rest??

Also, the film's repetitive disasters that got boring after the initial stints never seemed to end and the audiences cannot get any kick out of the more-exhausting-than-terrifying experience!

I think the Mathyavatharam has taken a new shape. Instead of a wooden ship, handpicked people, and the God in the form of a big fish, we have a new look :-)Ayyappa

I watched the movie on Friday.I asked my friend next to me, if they really said 80 Pa, and he confirmed it. I guess, in the English version this were actually 80 psi, which would have made a little sense. But 80 Pascal? Damn it!
